Language Is Growing Fast
Toddlers are rapidly developing communication skills.
Teachers encourage language through conversations, songs, books, repetition, naming objects and responding to children's attempts to communicate.
We encourage children to express what they need, what they want and how they feel.
Supporting Big Feelings
Toddlers are developing emotional skills while experiencing very strong emotions.
Teachers provide predictable routines, positive guidance and age-appropriate support as children learn to communicate feelings and interact with others.
Independence Begins Here
At this stage, children often want to do things themselves.
We encourage age-appropriate independence through opportunities to:
- Help clean up
- Make simple choices
- Participate in classroom routines
- Practice handwashing
- Attempt self-help tasks
- Explore activities independently
- Help with simple transitions
The goal isn't perfection.
The goal is confidence.
Preparing for Preschool
As toddlers approach their second birthday, they are beginning to develop the skills that will support their transition into Preschool.
These include communication, social interaction, independence, physical development and the ability to participate in classroom routines.
